2018 Fall Ball
Posted Aug 6, 2018

“I think about baseball when I wake up in the morning. I think about it all day and I dream about it at night. The only time I don’t think about it is when I’m playing it.” – Carl Yastrzemski

Don't miss out on your opportunity to play Fall Ball!  Registration will be open until August 24th

RMMBA Fall Ball 2018

RMMBA offers fall ball opportunities because there should be no off season for a game you love!

Fall Ball is a time for development and fun. It is comprised of players who will be entering the division in the following year as well as players who will be moving into their second year. It is a great opportunity for players interested in improving their skills or for those who are new to the game. It’s also an opportunity for players to learn more about playing in a new division or for returning players looking for more practices and games. Fall ball is for players of all skill levels.

The season will run from the first or second week of September until mid October, weather permitting. Player commitment will be 1-2 practices per week and 1-2 games on the weekends and possibly a tournament. Players receive a Ridge Meadows Fall Ball dri-fit jersey with their registration fee.

Fall Ball registration is open for:

18U Midget / College Prep (2001-2003) - $100

Coached by Midget College Prep coaches, Mack Whitford, Jeff (Skip) Scott, Brandon Sound and Doug (Howie) MacDermid.

Midgets will practice Tuesdays and Thursdays with a 7pm game on Saturdays.  We are looking at scheduling additional double header games on alternate Sundays. At the start of the fall season, we will run an inter-squad World Series.

In order to stay competitive with other leagues who are forming their teams in the fall and winter and practicing throughout the offseason, we will be holding evaluations for the 2018 College Prep team during Fall Ball.

If you are interested in playing on the 2019 College Prep team, there will be three practices (date TBD) that will be designated as tryouts for the 2018/19 College Prep Winter Program and the 2019 College Prep team.  If you have an interest playing on the College Prep team in the spring season, you must attend one of these practices so you can be evaluated by the coaching staff.  By running three evaluation days, the coaches are ensuring that children who play multiple sports will be able to attend at least one.  All players who are registered for Fall Ball will not only be evaluated during these practices, but will have the advantage of being observed and evaluated for the entirety of the Fall Ball season.

Regardless of whether or not you are trying out for the College Prep team, everyone registered for Fall Ball will receive quality coaching and development throughout the Fall Ball season.

 15U Bantam (2004-2005) - $100**

The format of fall ball has changed significantly from last season and we are trying something new.

Based on interest and player numbers, RMMBA is planning on running bantam AAA, AA and A in 2019.*

During the first two weeks, all registered fall ball players will practice together and be split into two even teams to play in a World Series. These initial weeks will be coached by our bantam AAA coaches, Jason Boldt and Mike Ferguson with additional RMMBA coaches in attendance periodically. These initial two weeks will be wood bat – RMMBA will supply wood bats for those players who do not have their own. All games and practices will be held at Hammond Stadium.

After the World Series, players will be divided based on skill level into a Tier 1 fall program and a Tier 2 fall program.

Tier 1 Program:

Coach Boldt and Coach Ferguson will head the tier 1 program.

Players invited to the tier 1 fall program will be charged an additional fee at that time. This fee will cover the extra field time for extra practices and games and umpire fees. Tier 1 will be coached by our AAA coaching staff and be entered in our RMMBA Autumn Classic Wood Bat Tournament held on Thanksgiving weekend at Hammond Stadium.

Practices will be held at Hammond Stadium but games will involve travel around Metro Vancouver.

These players will then participate in winter development together and near the end of winter development, the 2019 bantam AAA team will be selected from this group of players.

The 2019 AAA team has very preliminary plans to travel to Palm Springs in February 2019 for a pre-season tournament.

We understand that many of our players are multi sport athletes and may not play fall ball but if they wish to be considered for the 2019 RMMBA Bantam AAA team they must attend at least one of the following practices - Sept 5th, 6th or 7th and express their intent to our coaching staff.

Tier 2 Program:

The Tier 2 players will play fall ball until mid October and will be coached by parent volunteer coaches. They will continue to have some joint practices with the Tier 1 players and the AAA coaching staff. Players will use metal or composite bats.

Practices will be held at Hammond Stadium and games may require travel around Metro Vancouver.

Tier 2 will consist of players interested to play either A/AA ball, depending on the tryout selection process, for the 2019 spring season. Separate from fall ball, winter development programs will be offered.

The cost is $100 and includes a fall ball shirt. If your player plays Tier 1, an additional $100** will be required at that time.  After the initial two weeks and the world series, the tier 2 program can only run if we have volunteer coaches to coach this program. We need coaches to register to make the tier 2 program a success.

Please contact Angie Gregson, the Senior Commissioner srcommissioner@rmmba.ca if you have questions about the bantam fall ball program.

*It is important to note that playing AA or AAA ball at the bantam level requires significant time and financial commitments as well as travel time and expenses. AA and AAA are also single season teams that run from March through to mid August.

Bantam A baseball will run a standard spring season (late March through June) with a tryout for a summer ball A team (summer season runs late June – Mid August).

13U Peewee (2006-2007) - $75

Peewee fall ball is fun and developmental and has something to offer players at all skill levels. We are planning at least one practice and game a week with the options of an extra practice for teams that are interested as well as the possibility of exhibition games with other associations. The games are Saturday and/or Sunday afternoons/evenings at Harris #1 and practices will be week nights at North Bonson. To accommodate our multi-sport athletes, practices will not be on set days but you will have the full schedule in advance of the season. We need coaches to make the program run so please consider registering to coach. Fall ball is a short, low key season.

11U Mosquito (2008-2009) - $75

Mosquito fall ball is fun and developmental and has something to offer players at all skill levels. Teams will have 1 weeknight practice and 1 game on Saturdays with the possibility of a Sunday practice and possible exhibition games with other associations. You will have the full schedule in advance of the season. Most games and practices will be at Albion #6. We need coaches to make the program run so please consider registering to coach. Fall ball is a short, low key season.

We are looking for coaches for the Mosquito and Peewee divisions, and assistant coaches for the Bantam division. If you’re interested in helping out, please sign up through our Coach/Volunteer registration.
