Grassroots

We are excited about the new player and coach development opportunities this season and I just wanted to let you know some of what we have going on.

In response to parent and coach feedback from the last couple of seasons, our level of on field coaching development is unprecedented in the RMMBA and, as far as we've heard, in any minor baseball association in BC and it is free for all players and coaches.

Our grassroots program is up and running and our ops team is excited to bring some of our former players back.

Our grassroots coach is Scott Tulloch. Scott's impressive resume includes:

  • Team Canada for the World Baseball Challenge in 2011
  • Dickenson State University ND, 2006-09
  • Certified personal trainer
  • Run baseball clinics with Baseball BC

Shawn Schaeffer also comes out to support our grassroots program. Shawn's resume also impresses:

  • Midland College 2004-05
  • UBC 2005-07
  • Cumberland 2009-11
  • Coached at Douglas College 2011-15
  • Grassroots coordinator for Baseball BC
  • Instructs NCCP baseball coaching clinics

Scott and Shawn have worked with RMMBA in the past with winter development, coaching clinics and catching clinics but we are working with them on a whole new level this season.

Throughout April and May, all teams from Junior & Senior Tadpole, Mosquito and Peewee should be scheduled for at least one grassroots joint practice with one other team. Our competitive programs - College Prep, Midget AAA, Bantam AAA and Bantam AA teams and coaches are also working with Scott. These are on field practices where players can get development from these experienced coaches while our coaches can work with Scott and Shawn, bounce ideas off each other and get some on-field coaching development brought right to their practice. So far the feedback from coaches and players has been enthusiastic and positive. If your team doesn't have a date and time for a joint grassroots practice later in April and May, contact your coach for details.

April 8th, 15th and 16th we have the initial division level coaching clinics for players and coaches in Mosquito and Peewee. This on-field coaching and player development is run out of Hammond and Larry Walker fields with the coaches working with our grassroots program coaches and the players working with our College Prep or Bantam AAA players and coaches. You can check out our College Prep and Bantam AAA coach bios here http://ridgemeadowsroyals.pointstreaksites.com/view/ridgemeadowsroyals/coaching-staff

Our grassroots program is getting positive feedback so far and we are thrilled to have Scott and Shawn, who both played in RMMBA when they were younger, come back and support our coaches and players now.

April 3rd, many of you came out to the BC Minor Coach Caravan. We had over 500 players, parents and coaches from Rally Cap, Super T, Tadpole, Mosquito and Peewee come out, learn and have fun. The BC Minor Coach Caravan is organized by our provincial organization and focuses on showing parents and coaches age appropriate drills that keep players engaged and learning.

We are hoping to continue to bring your players and coaches more opportunities for development this season. If you or your player are interested in catching a game or two of our older age groups competitive programs, you can find their schedules here http://ridgemeadowsroyals.pointstreaksites.com/view/ridgemeadowsroyals/home-page

Keep checking your emails for player and coach pitching and catching clinics coming soon for various divisions.
